Cat Cruet |

When placed together the cats look as though they are snuggling up to each other. The backstamp is usually the Carlton Ware script or Crown mark with LTD.

Fake |
At first glance this resembles a Carlton Ware shape, but on closer inspection it can be seen that it does not match. The ‘fins’ forming the base are too deep and chunky as can be seen from an example of a real Carlton Ware vase on the left. Finally the mark on this fake, which was a Carlton Ware script, has the appearance of being a later addition.

Coffee Set |

We believe this set to be a fake. The shapes are not known to have been made by Carlton Ware. Only the coffee pot is marked as shown inset. However the mark appears very odd, with extra loops in the 'R's and the cross from the 'T' to the 'W' not actually connecting. If anyone knows differently please let us know.

Crinoline Lady Cruet |

Fake |
Carlton Ware produced a wide range of novelty cruets from the 1920s onwards. Original factory moulds for the Dubarry cruet have been in unscrupulous hands for a number of years. Large numbers of fakes have been made and decorated in inferior ways. Most are a single colour sometimes with heavy gilding around the necklace and to the rosebuds on the condiments. To date they all have the Carlton Ware Script mark as shown in the composite picture on the right.
To better help with comparison and identification both known original colourways are shown here in the left hand. As can been seen the level of detail and quality of decoration is far superior to the fakes.
